Beep, Beep, Beep rings your alarm signaling the start of another day.
Beep, Beep, Beep it rings again. you lazily reach out to the small night stand next to your bed, moving your hand around it.
you can't find it.
"Where's my phone?" you wonder to yourself while the alarm is still beeping in a high pitched annoying constant buzz.
Beep, Beep, Beep rings the alarm, as you open your eyes and look around the bedroom. your phone on your desk, you must've forgot it there yesterday, judging by the open laptop screen.
you throw your blanket off and reach your feet down to the floor, trying to stand up.
everything is black for a second, but that's normal by now, and vision slowly comes back as you sway a bit to the left.
Beep, Beep, Beep still rings your alarm. you take a step, then another, then a third, until you reach your phone.
you stop the alarm while yawning heavily. then look at the time, 11:32 AM it reads.
you get out of your room and do your daily routine. Wash your face, brush your teeth yada yada yada. You find it a bit weird that whoever designed your apartment put the restroom entrance in your room when the whole place is only 1 room, but then again, it's the only thing your money could afford without getting in serious debt, so you don't really mind.
You walk to the kitchen on your left, it wasn't the biggest kitchen on the world, but enough to manage your food needs.
you turn around, then reach out the fridge right next to the door and open it. you're greeted with 2 wrinkly cucumbers, a near empty jar of peanut butter, another of jam, some leftover rice from your lunch 2 days ago, as well as a small ketchup bottle in the door shelf.
you stare for a second, disappointed and annoyed. you take out the the peanut butter and jam jars and put them on the kitchen table across the kitchen, then scramble around until you find a kitchen knife and a bag of toast, that barely has enough to make a sandwich.
you walk out of the kitchen, munching on the sandwich you just made, towards the bedroom. you pull your jeans and jacket from the small hangar in the corner and put them on, then swiftly pull your phone and slip it into your pocket after checking the time again, 11:34 AM.
you lock your apartment's door and walk down the stairs, step by step, as you finish the last bite of your sandwich.
you take that path you have memorized from home to the local grocery, you even turned it into a song of sorts. "out then left but don't you drift, then left and right, twice alright? and on your left, right after the gift, there it lies, a store of supplies!". cringe, but does the trick, and that's what matters.
you stand in front of the store. "Barbra Noah's Tiny Grocery Store" it's called. You go inside, Barbra is sleeping on her chair at the counter. Looks like she stayed up last night again, probably playing that game where she fends off monsters or whatever she said.
- "Morgen!" you shout, as she doesn't speak English. You have only recently started learning German but you knew enough to communicate with her. Barbra jumps up as she wakes up, then smiles as she sees you standing in front of her.
- "Morgen! Was ghet ab?" says Barbra, as she suddenly wakes up.
- "Alles gut! Und sie?" you reply, while pulling a basket from the basket stack.
- "Ich bin sehr gut!" replies Barbra, before she takes a sip from her water thermos.
you collect a bunch of groceries to fill your fridge, but a small chocolate bar grabs your attention. you have never seen this brand before, could it be new?
- "Wie viel kostet das?" you ask Barbra, as she comes back from the store's backroom.
Barbra checks the bar on her counter, "$1.95" shows the display, and she repeats.
- "Oh! Das ist sehr teuer. Danke viel." you say as you hesitantly put the bar in your basket, looking forward to tasting it back home.
you take another quick tour around to make sure you haven't missed anything, before going to pay. $37.65 was your total. A lot, but everything is expensive now so what can you do. you wave goodbyes to Barbra as you leave the store, then you take your left, then your left again, as you continue to follow your song back home; but a car quickly rushes in front of you. "It's the Minnesota Estate Guards again" you tell yourself, "I wonder what they're up to this time".
you get back home. "It's so nice to finally be home." you tell yourself. you walk toward your bedroom and throw everything on the bed, then you reach out to your phone on the desk and look at the time, 11:57 AM.
you change your clothes and snatch the bags to sort them in the kitchen, but you trip on the doorstep.
"Ouch!" you shout, then check to make sure you didn't get hurt in the process. you check the bags, making sure that nothing broke in them.
you enter the kitchen on your right and head straight to the fridge right in-front. you sort your stuff, until only the chocolate bar remains. you stare at it for a second, studying the wrapper's design, before taking it with you back to your bedroom, and reading the details on the back.

"The Backrooms? What's that? Did they seriously make it in The Backrooms of some shady old place? No, of course not, that doesn't make any sense at all. This must be some sort of city or country that I completely forgot about." You tell yourself. But something is off, the name sounds familiar in a weird way, like you've heard it somewhere before.
You decide to investigate, so you approach your laptop and look up "the backrooms place". Results show up.
